Starting off from an Emulation project I had done previously, I was interested in following on from this and taking it further.
Joel Sternfeld was the photographer chosen for that project and i found it to be challenging but though provoking, taking me out of my comfort zone and working with a genre i had not worked with before.
Joel Sternfeld: Passing Stranger ~
From feedback from my tutor saying how it would be interesting to focus on the people working in the shops, I decided this would be my opportunity to take it further.
Knowing that I have to create a book I went out in search of books that were in the theme I am interested in. This theme is street fashion, and documenting people in a specific city, capturing the things that they wear to show what best describes them.
The first book that came to mind was a book entitled: The Tokyo Look Book by Philomena Keet, photographed by Yuri Manabe.
What interested me about this book is its bright colours and the layout. The layout differs from full bleed to smaller images on the opposite side of a large image, looking more in detail of the garments the people are wearing
I found it interesting that next to the layout of the chapters there was a picture explanation of what you will find in each chapter.
The blotches of colour give it a sense of fun about it, carefree and creative.
The full image next to an introduction of the chapter gives you something to look at and also matches the paint blotches on the left.
I like the idea of the little explanation by the person photographed, it gives you more understand of the person and also an insight into the kind of fashion they are apart of.
The glossary of words used helps the audience to understand more better of what the different styles mean and the terminological not well know of in other countries.
This whole book screens colour and originality.
