The look - Shoot #1

With these images I wanted to in a way sketch my ideas as to what i want my images to contain. With images taken in Manchester and London i wanted to express my interest in the unique people that work in small, independent shops that sell clothes and accessories that accommodate the unique people of the country.

Unedited Images:

Afflecks Palace

Brick Lane

Box Park

Most succesful images were:

This shoot i first began to find quite difficult due to nerves and having to approach people. With my friend with me it did get easier as we took turns to approach people.

My only concern with this proposal is the lighting if i am taking images indoors i have to consider the indoor lighting and whether flash should be used.

Overall this shoot was enjoyably towards the end and helped me to develop my idea further.

Roger Ballen: Shadowland (1993-2001)

I was lucky enough to discover that Roger Ballen was exhibiting at The Manchester Art Gallery.

His strange and extreme works confront the viewer and challenge them to come with him on a journey into their own minds as he explores the deeper recesses of his own.

With this exhibition it had taken over the whole top floor of the gallery. For each body of work there was a section of the gallery floor. Each was cut of from the other Giving them their own world to dominate. All his images are done in Black and white, which is something that is well known of Ballens work.

All images were some distance away from on another giving them there own space to stand on their own and be noticed. The walls themselves were gray to correspond with the images, and because they had a white border this made them stand out from the wall.
