Roger Ballen: Shadowland (1993-2001)

I was lucky enough to discover that Roger Ballen was exhibiting at The Manchester Art Gallery.

His strange and extreme works confront the viewer and challenge them to come with him on a journey into their own minds as he explores the deeper recesses of his own.

With this exhibition it had taken over the whole top floor of the gallery. For each body of work there was a section of the gallery floor. Each was cut of from the other Giving them their own world to dominate. All his images are done in Black and white, which is something that is well known of Ballens work.

All images were some distance away from on another giving them there own space to stand on their own and be noticed. The walls themselves were gray to correspond with the images, and because they had a white border this made them stand out from the wall.
